Corfe
Castle is a village and castle in Dorset, a county situated on the
south coast of England. The castle is situated on top of a steep hill
in the area known as the Isle of Purbeck.
The
original castle was wooden dating back to the 9th Century and was
rebuilt in 1106 with Purbeck stone. In its history it has been a family
home, royal residence and a garrison.
Today
the castle is in ruins largely because of Parliamentarian engineers
who were ordered to destroy it in 1646.
